Col tempo, 1956–2024 - Guido Guidi

Col tempo, 1956–2024 is a comprehensive retrospective of Italian photographer Guido Guidi, published to coincide with a major exhibition at MAXXI, Rome. Spanning nearly seventy years of work, the book is sequenced by Guidi himself, unfolding in an associative, reflective rhythm that mirrors his way of seeing.

The book opens with photographs made when Guidi was just fifteen, taken in the countryside surrounding his home in Cesena, in the Romagna region of Italy. From there, it traces the development of one of contemporary photography’s most influential voices — moving across decades, geographies and approaches. Alongside travels to the USA, Russia, Turkey and Portugal, the work repeatedly returns to the modest agricultural landscapes of Guidi’s home, where his distinctive visual language was formed and continues to evolve.

Bringing together many of his most recognised series alongside previously unseen early and recent works, as well as paintings and writings, Col tempo reveals the depth of Guidi’s influences — from Early Renaissance frescoes to minimalism, Pop art and semiotics. The volume is completed by a suite of critical essays by Frits Gierstberg, Florian Ebner, Alessandro Coco and exhibition curators Simona Antonacci, Pippo Ciorra and Antonello Frongia.

This paperback edition includes Guidi’s full image sequence and all critical texts from the original hardback, which sold out shortly after release.
