Chochin Lamp 02 - Tawara
Handcrafted by Asano Shoten in Japan’s Gifu Prefecture, the Chochin Lamp 02 – Tawara reinterprets the traditional Japanese paper lantern through a contemporary lens.
Made using premium Mino washi paper and a spiralled bamboo rib structure, each lamp is formed by hand using wooden moulds. The bamboo frame is carefully wrapped, glued and papered panel by panel — a labour-intensive process refined over generations of lantern making.
Named Tawara (俵), meaning “rice bale,” the elongated, gently tapered form recalls the traditional straw bundles once used for storing and transporting rice. The vertical profile diffuses light softly along its length, creating a calm, atmospheric glow. Raised on a minimal metal frame, the lantern appears light and sculptural, bringing quiet presence to a room without overpowering it.
- Japanese washi paper, bamboo and wire armature
- Includes E17 25W bulb
- Maximum wattage: 25W
- Ø28 × H50 cm / Ø11 × H19.5 in
- Made in Japan
